College begins in Kindergarten…

and affordable quality education begins at NHCS!! The educational foundation that children receive in the first years of school may determine how well they do later in college. Our students receive an excellent preparatory program designed to excite and encourage individual success. Most of our students test far above national averages.

Our accrediting organizations (AdvancED, AACS, and TACS) offer the opportunity to compare our student’s progress to other advanced curriculum schools. Each year, NHCS evaluates the results to ensure our classroom materials are providing our students the best learning potential For this reason, NHCS uses a combination of materials that promotes advanced learning in a structured teaching atmosphere. The A Beka and Bob Jones curriculum is the primary source of elementary materials. In addition, the following materials have been implemented:

  • Bible – Positive Action for Christ
  • English – Expert English
  • Math – Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The learning atmosphere at NHCS is controlled and structured.

Our classrooms are equipped with computers, surround-sound systems, ceiling-mounted projectors, ipad and Apple TV connections, document cameras/scanners, and digital stylus to help students in their learning process. To help protect our students, the facility is secured by magnetic-locked doors with multiple security cameras recording. Guest must be paged in the front entrance by our administrative offices. Protecting our students on campus is high priority for our administration.

Students are taught to respect each other and authority by conforming to standard classroom rules. Some of these rules include:

  • Learning to play/work with peers
  • Learning to be silent when necessary
  • Learning to walk in organized lines to and from the classroom
  • Learning respect towards adults by addressing them properly i.e.“Yes, ma’am/No sir”
  • Learning to raise their hand when they have a question

These foundational rules in our program create disciplined students ready for educational success. NHCS faculty helps each student achieve their personal best through caring classroom control. Classroom rules are reinforced by a system of positive/negative discipline system. Each student begins every day with a clean slate. After adequate reminders and warnings, a student may lose a portion of their play time or similar punishment. Serious behavior issues are handled with the following policy:

PULL A CARD Discipline System

  1. After at least one warning, student will be provided a formal verbal warning. Teacher will highlight child's name on a class list. No card pulled and no recess lost
  2. If behavior continues a green card is pulled: Green card= no recess lost
  3. If behavior continues a purple card is pulled: Purple card = 5 minutes off recess
  4. If child continues to misbehave a yellow card is pulled: Yellow card= 5 more minutes off recess for a total of 10 minutes off.
  5. If a child continues to misbehave, a red card is pulled: A red card = 15 minutes total off recess and an email to their parent.
  6. Teachers will log abbreviated offenses on class list paper beside their names. To encourage good behavior, a students has the opportunity to earn their cards back. By responding properly, the teacher can remove cards back down to the green card, but the student will retain their warnings.
  7. If a red card is reached, they lose the 15 minutes and the email is sent to the parent regardless.

This system is intended to require student accountability, but is seasoned with a lot of grace. The teacher has recourse to deal with improper student behavior and the student understands the expectations on their classroom behavior. Teachers will sit with the student for a few moments in their timeout to discuss how in improve behavior and how much they want the students to avoid these timeouts. ! While improper classroom behavior must be addressed, encouraging good behavior is key! Teachers will reward the students with a small piece of candy each day for keeping their names "clean."

If students continue to misbehave after parents have been notified, teachers will message a member of the ADMIN TEAM for assistance and support. Our team stands ready to encourage students to make improvement and will involve parents if necessary.
